Title: Help me tweak my routine
Post by: BabyJay on September 26, 2015, 18:24:45 pm
Hi everyone,

I'm new to this and just thought I would post my routine to see if anyone had any useful tips.

Baby is just over 5 months and this is a typical day/night when things don't get messed up

Wake up: around 6.30
E-7
A-7.30-8.30
S-8.30-10

E-10.30
A-11
S-1-1.30
A-1.30

E-2
A-2.30
S-3.30-5 or later (no later than half 5)

A (bath at 7)
E-7.20ish
S-7.45 ish

Then he has a dream feed between 10 and 11 and he will then wake for a further feed at 2.30 ish. Not 100% sure whether he is hungry or not. We have tried shushing/patting and pick up put down and he just screams and screams until I feed (breastfed). Any ideas to cut out this waking?

Hun - I am not quite sure where the problem lies:). Is it about this waking at 2:30? Yes it could be waking because of something other than hunger, but still even if you try to shush-pat this waking, it's possible that at this age another feed between dream feed and the wakeup is needed. So fading that fading that feed could mean another waking between 3/4am and 7am.

However you may try to help him get to sleep any other way and be consequent for 2-3 nights and see if he wakes any other time at night - as I understand he is not waking now between 2:30 and 7am? If he wakes later once again, it would mean he is hungry.

Re routine - it's not a proper "EASY" for that age but as it works for you, its fine. It will be difficult however to get rid of one nap in this routine, as both 1st and 3rd are a longer one, and the midday nap is short, so it would be worth working towards direction when the shortest nap is in the afternoon let say so you can get rid of it  when the baby is ready.

Do you feed him at 5pm? Or does he has feeds at 2pm and than 7 and dreamfeed?

Thanks for your reply! Oh yeh I do feed at 5ish when he wakes from late nap. I do try for a longer middle of the day nap, but more often than not we are out at this time and he wakes up. He really struggles with transitioning between sleep cycles in the day. I have to lie next to him from about 30 mins and shush/pat when he stirs. Hoping he will grow out of needing this soon as he is really cranky if he wakes after half an hour and WILL NOT go back down!

I agree about the feed, just annoying when others say their babies are sleeping through! He will sometimes wake between that feed and 7am, but can be shushed back to sleep without toooo much difficulty!

Poor lamb, he finds this sleep thing tricky, better things to do I guess!
