Title: Water or milk right after giving solids?
Post by: centrestage88 on September 27, 2015, 04:00:09 am
So little one is just 7 months and just recently started BLW. What do I give him after his solids to quench his thirst?
He is exclusively breastfed but I've just started giving him water from a short glass and he loves it. He can finish one whole shot glass and still want more. I limit it to one shot glass though. ( should I allow him unlimited water? I did read somewhere not to give too much water though as it fills them up and reduces their appetite for their next milk feed?)

Shall I give him some breastmilk in a cup after his meal instead? But would that lead to milk snacking when he breastfeeds?( as he gets milk so often throughout the day.)

At this age I would give a decent feed before food then just give water in a cup, LO is getting plenty of hydration from your milk so it's prob just the novelty of something new, you could always offer a piece of fruit to suck on!?

I never gave milk with a meal at this age just a few sips of water and saved milk for proper feeds.

I would give unlimited water during/after a solids meal. Sometimes mine liked quite a lot and had a good guzzle, often he didn't take much more than a few sips but it depended what he'd eaten.
