Title: 27m/o NW and singing!
Post by: larren on January 06, 2016, 22:44:49 pm
DD has been really easy in terms of sleep...used shh/pat with her at 4-5m/o and has been on her current EASY for about a year. Lately she has been taking longer to fall asleep at BT and WU is still at the same time, if not a wee bit earlier. Last night she had a NW around 3-4am and she was just singing to herself! I can't say how long she was up, I tried to stay up to keep track but I failed :P

EASY
WU 7am
S 1:30-3pm
BT 715pm
(falls asleep around/a little after 8pm)

Since big brother gets out of school at 1230pm, sometimes we get busy running errands and DD's lunch gets pushed back from her usual 1130am to 1245-1pm. I wonder if her sleep is getting thrown off because her lunch times are not consistent? I remember when they're babies, late night wakings are a sign of under tiredness, is that still true for toddlers?

For us that theory does hold true...esp if the nw involves singing or chatting happily ;). Perhaps the nap is a bit too late in the day or needs to be capped a wee bit?

Thanks for your response :)

If her naps are, at best, 1.5hrs, where should I start capping it?

I would move it earlier first for a while before trying to cap and see if that helps...if not maybe try 15 mins less?

I will try capping it. Pick up for big brother makes it difficult to put her down any earlier. I will try to get her down sooner on days the opportunity presents itself. Thank you for your help :)

Hi again :) I'm resurrecting this bc I've been trying earlier naps. Since posting originally, I did start to cap her naps at 1h15m but she still fell asleep around/after  8pm which is what gave me the push to try napping earlier. When DH is off and can pick up DS, I get DD down for nap at 1230. When I have to pick up DS, I get her down for nap at 1pm. The problem is, with the earlier nap time, she's only/barely napping for an hour now and still falling asleep late! We're on our third consecutive day of this and I'm afraid of her becoming OT, she had a NW last night (crying, this time) but idk if she just had a bad dream? Would you suggest I keep going with earlier naps or try something else?

Ack I thought I had replied to your post! So so sorry! How have the last few days been?  What about moving the nap back to the time it was and cap it at a certain time?

Hi, thanks for coming back!

I've stuck with putting her down at an earlier nap time Mon-sat between 1230-1pm. Some days she'll nap less than an hour, on other days, she'll do about 1h15.

On Sundays, since we have church, she naps at 130 and will nap 1h20m easily BUT falls asleep after 8pm.

On days when she barely naps an hour she's cranky and fussy by dinnertime but falls asleep around 745

How have the nw's been? We are in the midst of colds and teething so getting loads of whiny nw's!

No NW (that I wake up to anyway!) but she sometimes does seem to have EW, I would guess around 645-7am when WU is usually 730am

With a bt of 7:45 that is still a good 11 hr night! We usually only got 11 hrs when we still had the nap.

Would you recommend I change anything regarding her earlier but shorter naps? She's still hovering around 1hr, sometimes she'll fall back asleep

If she is still having no nw what about pushing the nap out super slow? Like 5 min or so a day? Wake up time is still the same as before?
