Title: Is it time to wean the swaddle?
Post by: choc on February 13, 2016, 07:54:11 am
We are still having so many nw and I'm getting fed up now! He has started breaking out of his swaddle which wakes him up even more and Even though he resettles for a while when we reswaddle him, do you think it could be doing more harm than good? I'm mega scared to wean it though.as he does visibly settle when we restrap him down.
Should I just go for it? He has a dummy too but don't  want to change too much at once and not sure how much of a prop it is yet.
Also this is our easy, just incase it shows other reasons for nw.
Wu 7
S 9.20 to 11.10 woke him to preserve next nap around school run.
S 1.30 to 3 woke him for school run
S 5 to 5.45 woke him up

Your routine looks pretty good. I would try him without the swaddle for a few nights to see what happens. It's hard to tell if it's helping or not unless you just dive in and try a night without.

Are you feeding at all at night?

Not feeding at night for a few weeks now. So dh decided we were going swaddle free tonight. He fell asleep on the bottle and I put him in his cot with his lovey at 7pm. He woke briefly at 8.30 and went back to sleep when I gave the dummy but now he has been awake for around 45 mins. He can't keep the dummy in as he has a bit of a stuffy  nose. At first he was happy, now he is grumbling.
Do we continue with this and he will definitely be OK in a few days or is it possible that if things don't improve after 3 or 4 days that actually he just can't do it?

I'm really not sure what to do now. He ended up being awake from 9.30 until 10.45 when he finally took the dummy. I dream fed him at 11. Then he woke at 4.45 and was happy playing and babbling in his cot until 6.30 when he got upset and finally took his dummy. Was asleep at 6.45 and I woke him at 7.15.
Was that good or not? Dh initially decided this morning that we can't go through that again!  But I'm not so sure. Will we have to go through this regardless of whether we do it now or in a month or in 2 months time? Or is he just not ready now but might be further down the line. Arh I need a crystal ball!

I've often wished for a crystal ball too!

Why don't you try one arm out instead of going cold turkey?

Thanks, we'll give it a go but if not I think we'll try again at a later date.

I would do the same. No sense keeping on if it's making nights awful.
