Title: going back to work and worry about food intake
Post by: zissi on March 13, 2016, 16:53:32 pm
hi ladies,
I will be going back to work in may and my LO who is currently 9.5 months doesn't eat a lot. we do BLW and breastfeed on demand otherwise. she doesn't take a bottle so there is no way of getting milk into her when Im not here. she does take a bit of water from a sippy, so she may take some milk too but we are not talking here about big amounts. she will be 11 months when I go back to work. any ideas how to get more food into her when Im not around? I rather not spoon feed her, plus she doesn't really like being fed anyway, apart from yoghurt. bit stressed about this TBH...

In terms of eating solids there is quite a big difference between 9.5 months and 11months.
I know it is hard not to worry but I would just continue with BLW and there is likely going to be a natural increase in what she eats by the time you go back to work anyway.
At 11 months it would be okay to BF morning and evening (maybe twice in the evening if there is time to fit it in before BT) and offer dairy solids during the day.  I don't see any need to spoon feed her or to make any big changes to try to make her eat more. The point of BLW is that LO takes what she needs without being 'encouraged' to eat more so she can continue to trust her body's needs with regard to amounts.
By 11 months she will likely take a bit more water from the cup too.
I used to worry about all sorts of changes in routine, and mostly they ended up being so simple and LO just went with the flow. It's unlikely to be the big problem you imagine it to be right now.
hugs I know we all worry about our LOs eating now and then x

thanks creations, its reassuring to hear what you wrote. I know I worry way too much and I heard from other mothers that baby probably will BF more when Im back home after work (and at night). at the moment she still feeds a lot, like every 2-3 hrs. but you are right, its still a bit time for her to pick up more food. she likes and tries most, just never big amounts... but she could be full from all the milk too. will keep going so and see how it goes!
