Title: Night visits
Post by: Albertalady on April 19, 2016, 15:44:29 pm
My son is 34 months old. We transitioned him out of a crib 2 months ago. The first 3 weeks went pretty smooth. Relatively few bedtime battles and rare pop outs at night time. He has used a gro clock for 2 years so he is well familiar with it and followed the drill. The past month has been brutal. He still goes down pretty easily but his night time visits have been so draining. Anywhere from 2-10 times a night. We have tried a sticker chart, rewards for staying in bed, taking away his car if he doesn't, turning his bed around so he he back in a baby crib (he just climbs out no problem). Any advice on what to do? He doesn't have any concrete reasons to come out and will walk back easily...but then he comes out again an hour later when he wakes up again.

At daycare yes. One hour a day. Usually 1-2pm. At home on the weekends it is rare. He's tired enough but too excited.

Have you tried sleeping on the floor in his room? That way at least he gets out of the habit of coming out of his room and has the comfort of you there. you can then withdraw from the room after a few days

My first thought is how much time is he getting with you in the day, is it about gaining some extra parental time because he is in daycare. As they get older they need/want more interaction & time & will seek it in anyway that works. You may find that if you delay his bedtime by about 20mins for extra stories & cuddles it could well change the need to come out as much.

Hi - does he still have a nap?

I'd say this could be an issue too. Is there an option to cut the nap?

Really? I thought as kids grow older they would need less?
