Title: Cutting nap to 20 minutes?
Post by: AMJ on July 12, 2016, 14:27:42 pm
Hello there.

My DD is 3 years old and now we are down to a 30m nap from which I wake her. It is really hard for her to wake up from this nap but this is what gives her the longest night. What's after that? A 20m nap or cut it out? I'm thinking that she won't take the nap drop too well so I'm leaning towards a 20m nap. Has anyone done a 20m nap?
Thanks

Hi AMJ

I found it was much easier waking DD1 after 15/20 mins than 30 mins as they haven't gone into that deeper sleep so definitely give it a go if you don't think she will cope with dropping completely.

20 min CN was our life saver and DS1 always woke up happy from it.

Good luck!  20 mins was a winner here too, though usually did it in the car as it was better waking her that way x

Hi ladies

So we've been trying a 20m nap but it's not really working. It seems that she gets OT by the end of the day after it and then either has a short night anyways or has a NWU. So I went back to 30m nap which gave us a 9hr45m night at first (her average night is 10hrs) but on the second and third day of a 30m nap her night shortened to 9.5hrs and then to 9hrs15m. Her mood is really grumpy too. I wonder what else can I try? The only thing that come to mind is a NND every 2nd or 3rd day but I'm really not looking forward to it.

I would be tempted to cut the nap altogether I think, I know she's always had short nights and I wonder if perhaps even 20 mins is robbing any chance of a long enough night to avoid OT?  She's of an age where no naps is common, I'd set bedtime and ride it out for a week or two and see what happens x

I'd cut it out too, ride out the OT with EBT.

Oh wow Zoe that's super early. DD is very prone to EWUs so her regular BT is at 10pm during summer and 9pm in winter. So 7 pm would be pretty early for her I think
