My 9 week old lo always liked to be swaddled at bedtime. He would instantly calm down when I swaddled him. Lately he likes to suck on his hands and at night he's trying to get them out of the swaddle. When I do losen it he seems to wake up and start sucking on his hands. Is it just time to unswaddle and hope the novelty of his hands wears off lol :)

Have you tried swaddling with one arm out?
-
Yes! And I've also just left the top loose so he can get to his hands. But tonight he's been asleep for 3 hours and now he's moving all around because his one arm is completely out and every time it falls he jumps and moves then he puts it up by his face doesn't get it into his mouth though then it slowly falls and he jumps! I'm sure it will wake him soon.

You could try purchasing a zippadee-zip. I know the name is funny but it was a godsend for us. My son had to be swaddled but could break out of ANYTHING. So we purchased this. He sucked his hands through the fabric and it was magical.

I will look into that. What made me nervous tonight was watching him move around in his bassinet frustrated trying to get the hands to his mouth ( I only swaddled one arm) but he was still fussing and bringing his legs up to where he ended up the wrong way in the bassinet and almost rolled over onto tummy. Is this a sigh maybe I should unswaddle him? I also feel like he's constantly moving all night! The past few days I've also fed him around 11 or 12 because he's fussing so much that I'm not sure if he's hungry and trying to suck on his hands or if he's just trying to soothe. He does take a decent amount though.

Help we had another rough night up a lot. Not sure what to do?! Should I switch swaddle suits or try without. I'm afraid that might make the Wakings more frequent but I can't tell
-
Anyone have any tips for tonight?
-
Well I just tried putting him down with both arms out 3 times and he woke all 3 times. So I guess it's safe to say he needs to be swaddled! I just feel bad to keep his hands from him if he needs to soothe right? Let's see if he's trying to get them free in a few hours and it wakes him. He was sleeping so wel before he found his hands loo

Weaning the swaddle is no fun. Sorry no advice because we went right to the zippy with my son and didn't swaddle my daughter. If you good. "weaning swaddle baby whisperer" some older threads come up.

Can't find a zipadee zip anywhere!!
-
Are you in the UK US or other?
-
US I found one and ordered it!
-
YAY.... there is a buy sell facebook group that sells sued zippys too. It takes a few days of transition but it's amazing once it works.
-
Thank you! I'm still going to keep trying the swaddle for now just tighter so he can't break out. Being that I tried the one arm out and loosening it and both kept him up all night. So it's probably not a great idea to use the zippy yet right?

Good Luck. :)

Tried the zippy tonight with no luck. He was going crazy chewing the fabric and his hands keeping him awake. Had to go in and change the swaddle blanket lol! I'm having a hard time finding a swaddle that's big enough for him because he's a large baby. What age do they recommend unswaddling? Id better keep looking for a bigger one.

ried the zippy tonight with no luck. He was going crazy chewing the fabric and his hands keeping him awake.
It can take a few days if not more than a week for them to get used to it. It's certainly not a magic fix. Although I wish it was. :)

I actually bought a fleece swaddle me in size large as my 3 mo lo is near 18lbs! And it's too small he's managing to get out and it still wakes him up! I'm out of options! Lol
-
I second the zippy but it does take a little while for them to get used to it. My 5 month lo started using one about a month ago and loves it but before that was in a love to dream Aussie swaddle which allows him to have his arms up. He could get his hand on his mouth but it still helped with the jolts and it helped with the transition to the zippy.

I'm just managing to barely keep him swaddled in this small one until he starts rolling then ill switch to the zippy and he's still sleeping in crib next to my bed. He's teething which is why he's trying so hard to get to those hands.

I hear ya. Mine is doing the same. :)
