Title: Night wakings for 16 month old
Post by: sbheitzler on October 23, 2016, 21:39:08 pm
Hi!
My son is 16 months and has never consistently slept through the night. When he wakes, he always needs help getting back to sleep. We are tired and have started a bunch of different things to help: letting him cry some at bedtime, laying on the floor next to his crib until he is asleep, and also doing that when he gets up at night (we no longer pick him up or rock him). We are now letting him cry some at bedtime, going back in every several minutes to tell him to lay down over and over again. We're doing all of these things during the nighttime wakings.

He is still getting up, last night a whole bunch after sleeping 5 hours.

Any advice would be great!! He needs to learn to self sooth but this is pretty stressful too. He is now hoarse from screaming so much at night.

Thank you!!

Hi Honey, welcome to BWforums. Please be aware that here we do not support any form of "alone" crying methods so neither CIO nor CC. But we are happy to help with some gentle methods.

First I would ask if you could post your routine. No sleep training will work with a wrong schedule. Secondly with any methods consequence and slow progress is a key to success. So we will probably advice some kind of gradual withdrawal but really sometimes it's you who have to push for next step. But firstly let's see your routine so we can start from that! Please post information about WU, naps/naps, milk and solids and what time do you offer. Thanks!
