Title: 10 month old nap help
Post by: SarahE on December 21, 2016, 20:57:41 pm
Hi there,

So I think I know what I need to do but not fully sure on the how....

My daughter is 10 months old on Tuesday and currently sleeps around 2-2.5 hrs across two naps. In the last month or so each week there has been at least one occasion a week sometimes two when she has refused the arvo nap - she's coped well and has just gone to bed a little earlier those days and maybe had a overtired wake up 40 mins to an hour after BT which she's been easy to resettle. She generally sleeps 11-12 hrs at night with no wake ups, though in the last month or so she has been going more like 10-11 hrs as she is resisting BT and it's now 8pm rather that 7/7.30.

Here's her routine:

6.45 wake
7 solids followed by milk - just change this around was last one to change to solids before milk
9.30 morning tea followed by top up BF
10 nap
11/11.15  wake
Solids 11.30/12
2.15/2.30 BF
2.30/3 nap
4 wake (don't let sleep past 4)
5/5.30'solids
7/7.30 BF
7.30/8 sleep

Our struggle is with the arvo nap and the bedtime.

When she goes to sleep in the arvo is pretty unpredictable at home, sometimes I can get her down at 2.30 easily, sometimes she's awake and resisting until 3.30 or totally refuses. We get her up at 4 if she sleeps and would like her to be in bed and asleep by 7.30 so she can go back to 11 hrs overnight as she seems tired and puffy eyed when she wakes recently.

So I guess I should be looking at cutting one of the naps? And if so which. I have a feeling she may be an early transitioner to one nap so in cutting the nap I'd want to be doing it in a way that's in line with the eventual transition 2-1.

So, am I best cutting the morning to bring the arvo one earlier then eventually the morning on will disappears? Or am I best cutting the arvo one and waking her at 3.30? And I guess eventually the morning one will move later and later until there is no time for the arvo one and BT is brought earlier?
Or am I just being selfish and should just stick with what we have?

The reason I would like to make BT earlier by 30 mins at least us because I'm working again part time for now and after putting her to bed at the moment I have an hour to do everything I need to in the house and for myself before I go to bed!!

At daycare they are following our schedule though their routine is naps at 10 and 2, and then those on one sleep nap at 12. So when we transition to 1 we would like to try and make it a 12 noon nap for ease as from April she will be in daycare full time...

TIA

Hi

Definitely sounds like the start of the 2-1. Have a read through of this which explains the different ways you can approach it and what you think will suit your LO the best From 2 to 1 nap transition (10-12m and older)

If you have any further questions please do come back.
