Title: Help with 16 week old E.A.S.Y routine please!
Post by: LoveSonqs on January 04, 2017, 20:37:02 pm
I wanted to start my 3.5 month (16 week) old on the 4-hour cycle but now I'm not sure, maybe a 3-3.5 combo?
I'm also not sure how to figure out the times and such. I would like to wake everyday at 8a.m. with bedtime being 7:30-8 p.m.
Prior to these two nights she was waking up EVERY or almost every hour and her feedings would be abnormal like she was snacking. But now that is taken care of, I just need help/advice/tips to configure and implement her new routine. I should add I'm new to this and LO is very much good on weight, haha.
Also, she use to eat 4/4.5/5 oz and now today she has been eating only 3. If I'm lucky, 3.5 :( she's been fussing at some feeds too and arching her back. The last time she ate more than that was this morning (7:30 AM) and she gobbled down 4.5 oz. She's a big catnapper too, I was surprised she slept 1 hour today at noon (I had to help her.)
TIA!

Back!  It does sound like she's ready to start the transition to 4hr EASY, a good sign is when they don't want to feed at the 3hr mark, so you might end up with a 3.5hr EASY for a bit, which usually is the case until they can manage a 2hr A time.

Just to kind of see where she's at with A times, I would start by trying a 1.45hr A time.  Unfortunately at this age short naps are common and I've found with both my LOs that good naps are a combination of getting the A times right, but also largely developmental and learning to sleep longer.  If the first nap is short then I would reduce the next A time by about 15mins to hopefully avoid an OT nap.  The general rule of thumb is 30min naps tend to be OT and 45min ones UT.

If you find her feeds are lacking, you don't necessarily need to feed upon waking from a nap, but it may result in feeding before the next nap.  Short naps can make this stage awkward so you might end up with an E-A-S-A-E-S routine which is okay and totally normal for the age.

This link provides some good examples of what a 3.5hr EASY generally looks like.  As I said, as a start I would try to just stick to 1.45hr A times for a few days and kind of see what happens.
Time to Transition - 3hr, 3.5hr or 4hr EASY
