Wondering if I should continue with the swaddle or wean it. My daughter is almost 16weeks and today we are starting to transition her to 4 hour EASY. So far so good this morning! She is currently swaddled but often breaks out of it.. there are times she'll sleep ok with 1 or even 2 arms out but other times she wakes herself a lot. Her hands (unless she's deep sleeping) are always at her face and she will knock her soother out. I'm torn as to whether this is a good thing or not. She sleeps better with a swaddle but I realize it needs to end at some point! She will suck on her hands/fists but gets frustrated if too tired because her arms flail.
With starting sleep training/self soothing this week my gut tells me its time to break the swaddle to allow her access to her hands to better self soothe. Just feel I might need the push of some extra advice here.

Just our experience, we didn't wean the swaddle until about 5 months. I attempted to wean at 4 months as she had started rolling, but it was a disaster, she would wake herself up all night long. After 2 nights of neither of us sleeping I just decided to swaddle her again, and tried to wean again about 2 weeks later. That time wasn't any more successful, so again we swaddled and then tried to weeks later (about 5 months), and this time she was a champ. I started with 1 arm out, then both out, then removed altogether, and it only took about 3 days. I really think she just wasn't ready when I initially tried, and when she was ready the transition was so smooth and easy.
To me, by what you are describing and my own experience, I would maybe hold onto it for another week or 2. That short time can make all the difference in the world. And then start with 1 arm out and hold for a few days and see how it does.

Thank you for your reply. I have tried here and there with 1 arm out and then find I end up tucking it in at some point because she wakes up or knocks her soothe out. I think I'll go with your advice and wait a while :)
Thanks again!
