Title: Breaking the overtired cycle
Post by: tar7045 on February 06, 2017, 03:44:47 am
I wrote a topic a few hours ago, and this is a different question, so different thread.

So my daughter has been struggling with naps/nw/ew for the past few weeks. We are trying to get her back on track, but I don't know how to break this overtired cycle and it's getting worse. I know how to compensate within the day, but when she's waking out of a nap early, do I try another nap? How long? If she doesn't 2nd nap and goes to bed early, but still has nw or ew, how early do I cut "A" time??? Or do u at all?

Good golly. I am up in arms.

Btw, she's 15 mins.

Her easy us
Wake 730
Nap 1230
Sleep 730

I read your other thread to see what's going on.
Looks like you've recently dropped to one nap as she is refusing nap 2.  I'm afraid it's pretty common to be OT with a big routine change like that.  Mine went from a great 2hr nap plus CN down to one nap of 20 mins when he dropped his CN. I had thought he would just keep his 2 hr nap - I was wrong!
W2S was a life saver for us. I went in every 20 mins and saw him through the transition, patting/rubbing/firm hand/verbal soothing to help him stay asleep.  If he woke it was a nightmare, it would take for ever and him screaming blue murder to get him back to sleep, keeping him drowsy and catching him as he stirred was key for us.  Doing W2S every 20 mins was a bit of a bind as I didn't get much Y time but it was a whole lot better than screaming OT child.

I would suggest keeping with your other thread as you are getting support there and tbh the background information is vital to anyone wanting to support you.

Thank you for responding.  I know you said to keep up with the other thread, but when you did w2s, about how long was the nap? I just don't know how many w2s (or 20 min) intervals I would go in for.

I went in every 20 min until he'd done a 2hr nap.  He had previously had a 2hr nap so that's what we headed back to and eventually he did it alone and independently just as he had done before the 2-1 nap drop.
