If it's only for dummy and he goes back to sleep - I would wean. Most of my clients wean dummy at that age after my redo and after 2/3 days it's over. We usually just take it cold turkey. I am thinking loudly however if dummy is the only reason for waking?

Thanks Martini. It is so hard to know at this stage because he isnt settling even with dummy, it is taking a feed or cuddle to get him back to sleep whereas a month ago, Id put dummy back in and off to sleep he went. That isnt the case right now. Not sure what is happening.

It's only my opinion but I would wean. At 6mo really any LO doesn't need a dummy as they can find other ways to selfsooth. So if it's me, I would wean and see if it helps. If not, you will work on other things.

FYI I weaned dummy with DS1 at 3mo as he was waking from every nap only for dummy and was waking around 5/6am and and didn't go back to sleep easily. After weaning the dummy naps become great. EWU didn't disappear as such but became less frequent and he started to self settle to go back to sleep when with my repluging he was starting the day...:).

With DD1 & DD3 (DD2 sucked her thumb) we chose not to wean but did do some work on teaching them to replug themselves. We put loads of soothers in the crib and also played games in the day to get them looking for them (plus DD3's soothers are all glow in the dark!). My worry was that if we weaned it they would just turn to their thumbs as they were/are very much in need of that sucking. DD1 we weaned cold turkey at 2.5 with no issue and DD3 seems to be weaning herself (she now holds the soother in her hand while she sleeps lol).

How long has the waking been happening? Growth spurt/developmental leap perhaps? There is one around the 6 month mark.

Waking has been happening for months.  We've gone from 3hrly wakes to 2hrly over the last week or so. He is feeding heaps today so i guess that is the growth spurt kicking in.

Hmm. How do you recommend weaning? If i go cold turkey, he will scream and scream. I have tried before to not give and he lost the plot.

I would just follow the path of normal sleep training honey - at that age probably pupd with as little pu as possible, trying to calm him down in a crib or possible rather letting himself calm down when you are around. I can imagine it's going to be tough but any  sleep training may that age may be connected with some cry
