Title: Is this helping him fall asleep independently
Post by: Cvbaby2014 on March 17, 2017, 19:00:45 pm
My LO sometimes falls asleep independently for naps and nighttime but has started waking within a few mins and is upset.  Sometimes he calms and fallls asleep but mostly we need to go in and hold him.  He is 8 weeks old.
We have noticed that sometimes a gentle shake seems to work.  So we have a hand on his belly and shake him so to speak whilst he is flat in the crib gently for a few seconds.  It seems to literally shake him out of his reluctance to stay asleep.

I emphasize- we are not holding  and shaking but a jiggle in the crib.

So is his helping him or creating a dependence on movement to sleep.

He does sleep for longish stretches at night FYI and can have good long naps although they are a bit hit or miss he last few days.

Have you tried patting him instead - so effectively using the ssh pat method?

He doesn't really respond to that probably because it is too stimulating.

Hello - This is similar to shh pat so you could wean it in a similar way. So you are creating a prop I guess but when that can be weaned easily enough. Sometimes babies that tiny need a little help to get to sleep and there is no problem in that!
