Title: how many ounces do i give an EBF baby? back to work in a week :(
Post by: Kpop on March 21, 2017, 19:16:18 pm
HI

my LO is 11 weeks old, and I go back to work in  a week, she is EBF, but when given a bottle on occasion takes it fine.

here is my problem:
she eats about x8 during a 24 hour period, so i put 3 oz in the bottle.  sometimes she gobbles it up and other times she eats only 1.5-2 ounces, she is on a 2.5 hour sleep schedule and cat naps and cluster feeds at night.  How do I figure out what she needs to be satisfied without overfeeding her and without being forced to throw out "precious liquid gold"

sample schedule
7am wake up
nap 1 8-930
930 feed
nap 2 1030-1
1 feed
nap 3  2-330
330 feed
430-5/15 cat nap
515 feed
6-630 cat nap 2

730 feed/bed time routine
830/845 bed

thanks in advance!

If 3oz is the most she will take at the moment then offer that much in each bottle, as she gets bigger she will need the bottles increased. If she is draining those bottles you need to increase all her bottles by 1oz.

Unfortunately you will always get some wasteage, babies don't take the same amount at each bottle, you do get fluctuations through the day and the week. It's the same with formula, I dread to think about how much I poured down the sink! ;D
