Title: Shush pat and when to stop
Post by: Drebolinger on June 08, 2017, 22:01:43 pm
I have a 5 mo old and we just started implementing the baby whisperer tools. I have a spirited and grumpy guy. I shushed patted him while he was in his crib until he fell into a deep sleep as everytime I stopped he got very upset. I read that with babies who have a trouble falling into a deep sleep it is ok to shush pat them to sleep. But when does this become a prop and when/how should I stop?

I'm wondering the same thing! I've been using it for every nap and bedtime for the past few days and it's working for us, but should I stop doing it while he's still awake or is it ok for him to fall asleep?

Generally speaking you slow down & ease off gradually over a period of days/weeks, so you tailor it to needs, if they are overtired you might need to shush pat more sometimes & others less & then over time they don't need you because they gain a sleep association from the routines you have in place before you actually start to shush/pat.
