Title: 10mth old taking full top up formula
Post by: malibu_nikkus on July 12, 2017, 08:00:02 am
Hi
My 10mth old is an active little guy. He's happy but hasnt grown much in weight since 6mths nor much in height. He has dropped to 3 % in weight. I'm going to see our dr this week for a check up, but until then I wanted to supplement with formula to see what happens. I've been following our usual regime of milk, then an hour later I give solids. When he has his solids, Ive been giving him some formula in a sippy cup which he loves! Today he drank 160ml of formula. That seems like a lot. Have I been starving my baby all this time? I think he is going through a growth spurt too. Lets hope he grows this time. Would you suggest we continue on with formula like this (giving it with solids)?

When I give him milk feeds, I breastfeed. The top up is formula.

Hi Honey and Can you post slightly more information? What was his weight and percentile at 6mo, how much he eats of solids, how many if any NFs, how mic he solids he eats.

Mine also happily takes formula during meal but he is the same happy with water as a drink. It seems that during solid meal he gets thirsty. So the idea that he needs drink seems quite normal however 3% can be a problem. But it all depends on how much he gained/lost vs on which percentile he was before.

I don't think I'd introduce formula at this age (he's 11mo now right?) as ideally formula would be stopped by 12mo. Have you considered pumping and offering the pumped milk in a cup?

Otherwise I'd look at what and how much solid food he is eating and try to get more calories in him that way.
