Title: How much milk does a 12mo old need?
Post by: LaraAndrea on July 31, 2017, 17:12:28 pm
I will be going back to work in October when my LO is a year old.

Currently (10mo) she is BF 4 times per day and gets solid food 4 times per day. I know needs shift some after a year, but I do plan to nurse morning and evening (for as long as we are both happy). I will slowly introduce cows milk as well...

How much milk does my LO need at that age?

If I do 2 BF how much milk (cow or breast) should be offered in a cup during the day?

Thank you!!

The who recommends breastfeeding on demand as much as baby wants for 2yrs or beyond. Obviously that's difficult to gauge if you aren't there during the day.

The NHS recommends about 12oz of milk or the equivalent dairy so that includes things like cheese and yogurt. Breastmilk is obviously much better nutritionally than cow's milk though.

I'd just offer a few ounces if you want and let her make up the rest in solids. 2 BFs will give her a lot of what she needs by that age.
