Title: How long breastfeading a 2 week old?
Post by: Quinten on September 05, 2017, 17:28:08 pm
Hello, I'm the very proud mom of the two week old Quinten. He feeds every 3 hours for about 20 minutes. Then he falls a sleep.
Is this enough? I read that feeding time should bij 45 minutes.

The length of feeds is generally a very unreliable indicator of how much milk a baby is taking in, because every mum-baby feeding relationship will be different.  Some babies are quick feeders, some slow, some Mums have a fast let-down - there are just too many variables to put a time on the 'perfect' feed really :)  Far better is to look at your baby - are they content after feeds and coming off naturally?  Are they having plenty of wet and dirty nappies and growing appropriately?  If all those things are in place it sounds like you are doing a great job :D  Well done, keep it up and congratulations!

Hi, yes he looks and acts content. Almost every feed he had a very wet diaper.
Thanks for your answer. It is my first child and I'm a bit insecure if we do everything good.
My letdown is very fast. If he is near, my breasts start to leak. :)

Congratulations! My DDs were always quick feeders and I was worried because my sister's baby used to feed for 45 mins every time! But mine were totally fine, just efficient! You may find the feeding picks up nearer 6 weeks anyway with a growth spurt :)

Be led by your baby and you can't go wrong.

Congratulations and welcome to the forums ☺
