Title: Waking earlier every morning
Post by: Chloevalentine on October 05, 2017, 11:36:45 am
Is there any reason babies start doing this ?every day he wakes  a little bit earlier.  I'd  Like to try to nip it and  get back on track.

He was up I think around 615 probably earlier but that's when his cry woke me and normally he sleeps until 630/40 I thought maybe he needs his nap pushed out later so I tried but maybe because he was up so early it didn't work and instead of going down nicely like he normally does it took him a while to settle and he cried a little then slept for 45 mins instead of his usual 2 hours. So that def didn't work.

Yes, that is exactly what is needed. 45min is usually an UT nap - so he may have not got down easily as he usually does because he's protesting because he's not tired enough - usually if you increase the A time enough, LO will sleep a long nap or wake after 30min OT because they're used to the old A time.

Some questions so we can be of help:
How old is LO?
What is his current A time?
Could you post his EAS?

He's 14.5 months and he's current easy is :
630/45 awake
Small bottle breakfast
Nap 12-2 sometimes 1130-2 or 12-230 on average a 2 hr nap sometimes more he goes down easily so I'm really not looking to change much but he's been waking a little too early lately. He goes to bed around 7/715

If you move the nap to 12:30 and keep it there consistently for a week, you should see WU getting later. If not, it might be time to cap the nap.

Is a 2 hr nap too long at 14 mos?! With a 12.5/13 hour day. But yesterday he def was not ut for his nap he was ot. He normally goes down after 5.5 hours as time just fine. It seems like I did more harm. :#

We've also just removed the air conditioner from his room since it's cooler weather and i added a second white noise machine but perhaps it's not loud enough to drown out outside noises as our street is quite noisey in the mornings due to traffic. I wonder if that might be causing the early waking.

I agree with Bec - fighting to go down for nap + short nap + earlier wake up = UT.  Push the nap out and hold and see what happens.  My DD is usually up around 6:30am and it really didn't take long before we pushed to a 1pm nap.  Definitely by 15 months nap was 12:30 at the absolute earliest.

He fought the nap when I tried for later. Today he was up around 615 maybe earlier but not sure And as long as I get him in for nap by 12 he goes right down until 2/215 so I'm hesitant to mess with the nap time. Guess I'll just deal with the early waking for now lol.

Yesterday he woke late 715!! So his nap was 1230-230 and bedtime the same 7/715. He also woke late today around 7 which was great. I tried for so again at 1230 but he gave me some trouble which he never used to and cried a bit and fell asleep about 1245. I'll see how long he sleeps today. It's crazy to think that just a week ago he was napping 1145-2 and now he's resisting a 1230 nap! 1-3 nap is going to be tough as older guy is getting home from school. I was hoping to keep 12-2 or 1230-230 for a while longer sigh. I still see some 15 month olds taking 2 naps!
We are also weaning off morning bottle and today was the first day he didn't cry and demand it. So fingers crossed. I'm hesitant to start the weaning of night time bottle as to not upset him or rile him up at bedtime.

And he's up at at 615... darn. Can't quite figure it out. He use to be so consistent. I feel like the problem is that now that he was up early the 1230/1 nap will come too late and he'll be ot which is what happens. It's almost like i have to wait for a day when he wakes late around 7 in order to try the later nap or we just keep going on this viscous cycle. Ugh

Went down at 1215 he was really tired and slept 1 hr 15 mins opposed his 2 hr naps. We are all out of sorts right now. Maybe I should go back to 1145 nap ?

I'm not sure I won't go back hun, I think holding at a later time (12:30?) for a good week or so is probably best.  But honestly both my kids WUs vary, DD can be anywhere from 6-7am and I still just hold her nap at 1pm.

12 seems to be the seer spot for now he'll usually sleep 2 hrs at that time. And today he's still asleep at 630 am so maybe it's just the teething that's throwing off sleep and not time for a push yet ;)
