Title: 28mo Old UT OT Teeth?
Post by: JennVanessa1083 on October 11, 2017, 02:33:20 am
Hi all!

So my now 28 month old has been pushing out bedtime in the last week. He has all teeth except for one last stinking molar that hasn't broken through yet. It's been a crazy couple of months of teeth issues and sleep. He started sleeping better when I decided to try keeping his nap at most 1.5. I noticed anything over thanmeant bedtime battles. This is the current routine:

WU 7:30 pm
S 1:30-3 pm
BT 8:30 pm

Of course teeth made this routine inconsistent but in the midst of chaos I noticed that the above gave me the best nights.

Now he's pushing his last A out to 6 hours despite putting him down on time. Tonight he did complain about teeth but also said he wasn't tired. I'm confused. What's a typical EASY at this age?

Should I tweak or wait until the last tooth pops through?

Hi there DS1 started to nap drop at this age, we were getting 14 hour days after a 1.5 hour nap so decided to start capping to 1.15, then 45 mins after a couple of months then max 20 mins. By 32 months nap was gone  ::)

If you think its teeth related u may have to go with longer day and keep nap if it's working for u x

Hi!!

These are great suggestions. I think I will slowly cap back to 1.5 after he cuts his tooth. Right now between this and being congested it feels unfair to do it now. I won't go over 2 hours bc then his days are ridiculously long.

Did you find that your DS needed the same long A even if he was late on napping? Like DS got a late nap today (around 6.5 rather than 6) and I'm wondering if I should stick to BT even if it means a shorter A to bed.

I think it depends a lot on the child, my eldest was always EW and long days but I kept to set BT more or less, my youngest can have later nap and same set BT. I didn't go by A times at that age BT was set x

Yea more or less I am sticking to a set bedtime. Well I answered my own question lol when DS gave me a 1.5 hour NW last night after a late long nap...

I'm tempted to start cutting down his nap but because he has a cold and is still teething his last molar, I feel bad not letting him just sleep

You could just shave 15 mins off the nap sometimes that's all it needs to start with x

So maybe:

WU 7:30 pm
S 1:30/1:45-3 pm
BT 8 pm?

I should probably do up by 3 pm no matter how late is nap is? Some days he fights his naps hard with the nanny. Today he wokeclose to 8 and napped 3:15-3:45 with the nanny. For bedtime, I got home a little late but he still resisted after putting him down close to 8:25 pm, waking up every two minutes until about 9 pm 😩😩

Is that OTbehavior or was he actually not tired enough bc of the really late nap?

Yes I'd say be up to 3pm latest. Was he awake and chatting at BT?

He was just tossing and turning a lot, would close his eyes for a bit then back open again...

Today he only napped 25 minutes with the nanny!

He is also being extra clingy lately and the nanny told me he has been sad today waking up from his very short nap calling out my name.

Is there separation anxiety around now? Is that maybe contributing to the crazy napping?

They have developmental leaps every half birthday and birthday so could be that causing disruption and SA.

hmmmmmm he is talking so much more...short sentences and repeating back all sorts of words. He's is also notably maturing in the way he plays so maybe it is developmental.

They normally just start sleeping better and talking like a mini adult after a big leap  ;D xx

Lol it's the cutest thing!

I also noticed that it looks like his last molar is finally about to cut so could be contributing. He fought his nap for 45 minutes! Despite him saying his tooth didn't hurt I looked in his mouth and noticed it bulging and transparent.

Is it average to push the nap back at his age? We have been doing 6A for months which seemed to be the magic A for a drama free long nap. I should probably wait to tweak anything right?

Molars can cause chaos id prob wait till it's through and then tweak things x
