Title: Planking during prenap/presleep quiet time
Post by: Manchee on October 31, 2017, 17:18:24 pm
So I have a 7 month old boy, he's always been difficult with sleeping, until recently we were having to bounce him on a gym ball to be him to go to sleep for naps and bedtime. Hes the size of a 9 month old now (long and heavy baby) so this was getting really difficult. After reading a few books (including the baby whisper) I decided we would move on to a combination of baby whisper and no cry sleep solution. The plan was to get him to sleep holding him sitting in his nursery chair, and moving forward slowly get him used to being less and less asleep when we put him in his crib. At first this worked great, no muss no fuss he would fall asleep really quickly (still at the first stage, with him falling to sleep being held), but now we're having issues - basically as soon as he realises hes going down for a nap he proper kicks off.

We have a bed time routine and one for naps as well, which ends with us sat in his chair having 'quiet time' singing twinkle twinkle little star. Once we get to this bit he starts screaming and crying and ripping his dummy out of his mouth (its a prop but it has been working fine for us and I dont plan on removing this just yet) and planking/thrashing his arms around. He doesn't do it every time but often enough. When hes like this usually he will fall asleep after a while but I think its because he wears himself out which really isn't how I want nap times to be for him. If he has good naps they will last between 1h and 1.5h, but sometimes his naps will be quite short - sh*t naps I call them! - which will last 20-30 mins. His awake time is currently about 2h 15 mins. We have never left him to cry it out so I don't think its an issue with him being scared of his cot or anything.

Any advice? Kinda getting sick of being headbutted/smacked in the face all the time :(

We have different nap/sleep history But, for my LO when she kicks, stretches, squirms during PD routine it is her telling us "hurry it up". My LO prefers a short wind down routine.

I find it is worse when she is OT or OS.

2:15 at 7 months is very short A time, almost certainly he's not ready for a nap yet. I'd increase A time fairly smartly aiming for 3hr A time in the next 1-1.5 weeks and then hold there for 3-4 days and see how the naps go. Increasing A time when its been this short for a long time will likely result in OT naps so be ready to resettle.
