Title: 13mo who can't self settle - where do i start? It's getting worse!
Post by: Eva143 on January 04, 2018, 21:15:05 pm
Hi all,

i need help! My 13mo can't self-settle. We have always patted him to sleep in his cot. For the last month or so he's got harder and harder to put to sleep. Its almost like he's fighting it. He will start crying as soon as i put him down and then he will not lie down. I don't want to make him CIO - I tried it today and he cried for an hour and 30 mins before he eventually went to sleep. It was awful.

I would really appreciate help.

Thanks xx

Hi there, hugs let’s see if we can help you figure anything out. Please don’t let him CIO it breaks the trust between baby and mum and it’s sonething we don’t support here at BW.

Can you post what his day looks like WU, Nap times and BT etc, sometimes if the routine is wrong nothing will help them sleep.

At this age and with him not ever going to sleep independently I’d start by using gradual withdrawal.
