Title: 12 weeks sleep review
Post by: SNSmith on January 07, 2018, 01:29:47 am
Tips for what to work on first? For the past several weeks night sleep looks like a 4-5 hr stretch, feed, 4-5 hr stretch, try to soothe for final 1 hr. Naps have been mainly short 40-55 min but if I catch the timing just so and she’s feeling it she will go 1-2 hr for a nap. She is breast + formla and even though she seems stuffed at every feed she still screams a hungry cry every 2-2.5 hrs during the day. It’s rare for her to go 3 hrs between feeds but if it happens it’s usually afternoon. Her ideal A time seems to be about 1hr 35 min atm. Right now she often is asleep already when I lay her down (naps and nighttime). I know drowsy but awake is important but not sure where to start? Extending naps, drowsy but awake during naps, bedtime or MOTN, weaning/stretching night feeds....? Any thoughts on overall priorities/strategy.

Hi :)

weaning/stretching night feeds....?
Not a priority at all - she's doing really big stretches for a baby her age and will likely extend the stretches and drop NFs on her own.

Naps have been mainly short 40-55 min
She may be a touch UT, you could give her an extra 5mins (maybe by lying her down at 1:35 awake and shush/patting her off to sleep. Given she's sleeping 55min here and there and doing the odd 1-2hr nap, we know she can transition, so this will be UT, not so much developmental short naps.

drowsy but awake during naps, bedtime or MOTN
This for naps and BT if you can - not essential to get all of them every day so APOP the odd nap and keep the sleep up to her. MOTN - feed, burp and put back into bed, don't wakes her, you really just keep this all business and in as little light as possible. If she pretty much sleeps through the feed and burping, all the better. You don't want her thinking night time is play time, so keep it dark, quiet - no chatting to her, etc.
