Title: 8 months, longer A times
Post by: SNSmith on June 21, 2018, 04:45:40 am
Hey all,
can someone have a look at our schedule? It seems to keep getting later and later for bedtime. I'm not entirely opposed to this as DH and I are night owls it gives me a bit of a lie-in but wondering if I need to tweak A times to keep the day to 12.5hrs? Last night bedtime was 8:20, I think the night before was some time in the 7pm hour. She does fine on 3.5hr A times though.

A 8:30am
E 9am milk + solids
A
S noon-1:30pm
E 2pm milk + solids
A
S 5-6:15pm
E 7:45pm solids
8:30pm bath, bottle, books, bed
9:15pm asleep, no crying

Not much crying before naps and she wakes happy. She wakes 1-2x at night and I offer 1.5oz of BM + 1.5oz water or a BF. I am weaning her down from those with the water, hope to drop to 0-1 wakings by next week. We can't do much crying at night right now due to DH so it's been a slow process on that front but I'm not that bothered by it.

Hi
To be honest I think I'd stick with what you have unless it is becoming a problem for you.  The A times and naps look good, night is a decent length it's only that you start and end the day later than some families.  If BT started to get a lot later than this then I'd suggest reducing nap2 a little, say cap 10 or 15 mins earlier to make a 1hr nap instead of 1hr 15 and then bring BT earlier.  Over the coming months that nap might need to reduce more until it is a CN and is eventually dropped.  At the moment with the A times being comfortable (she goes to sleep well) you could start he naps at the same time and just cap nap 2.  If/when her morning A time needs to increase (eg nap refusal or nap goes short due to UT) then you would move nap 1 a bit later and put down for nap 2 a bit later but cap it at the same time so that you can keep BT the same.

With regards to the night feeds, it's perfectly normal for a BF baby to need one or more night feeds for a good few months yet. I am not sure aiming to wean all the feeds would be advisable at this point.

hope that helps.

Thanks, that does help!

Also, today we went to the park and she napped in the car a short nap. Now her afternoon nap is going quite long, 2+ hours. Is this normal to catch up from the missed time in the AM? Some would say cap all naps to 2 hrs to prevent messed up nights, what are your thoughts there?

Thanks in advance!

I tend to suggest to go in and watch at 2hr and wake her when she rouses between sleep cycles, often around 2:15. That's the most pleasant time to be woken...

Its fine to catch up a bit, just that a sleep debt doesn't have to be paid back in full hours of sleep, just good quality sleep.
