Title: Time change and nap
Post by: Chloevalentine on March 11, 2019, 11:34:59 am
Ugh daylight savings And losing an hour. I forget how does this work with naps. When the clocks says 1pm it’s technically still 12 pm. Will my lo not nap until the clock says 2 pm which is technically 1pm the time he normally naps ?

yes, when the clocks move forward, so at 1pm your LO would feel like it was only 12pm, then new 2pm would correspond to his old 1 pm nap time.

You could try waking him up in the morning though (so an hour earlier than usual for him) so that he doesn't have a "lie in" with the new time.  Then he might still be ready to nap at his usual time of 1pm (i.e. an hour earlier than usual).

Ok. I did wake him at 730 on the clock which was technically 630. He was passed out cold. I’m just hoping to get him to nap before 2 since I need to walk out to the bus at 145 for his older brother which is technically still 1245 and I don’t think he’ll nap that early. But if he doesn’t i can’t get his brother off the bus unless he’s asleep since he climbs out of his crib. This is going to get ugly.

He’s waking a bit earlier everyday. Monday 730 today 715 (which really is still like 615/630 am) napping around 145 pm which is still kind of 1245 for an 1.5 and bedtime isn’t easy he still awake at 9 which is technically 8 pm. He always goes to sleep easy so this is def he time change. Not sure what else I can do. Maybe wake him by 7 am tomorrow morning and get in for nap by 130 (he used to go at 1:15 pm) and hope he’ll go to bed at night earlier. ? I’m all confused. lol.

My approach has been to just go for it with the new times (WU, naptime and BT, and also BT) and after 2-3 days things usually settled down.  I found if I took things too slowly and gradually, then they wouldn't adjust.

So just let him sleep to 730 am and try for a nap at 115 pm as usual ? It’s not working out to well lol

I meant just stick to your old routine but at the new times, so everything is one hour earlier than he's used to.  Wake him up at the new time if you need to, i.e. if he's still asleep.

You don't have to do it like that of course, but that's what I found easiest for me.

That’s what I’m doing but it’s not working 😕

which bit exactly is the problem?

Could you let me know his old routine (before clock change) ie. WU, nap time and BT, and what times you are trying for/getting now - the same ones?  You were getting nap resistance recently weren't you?

Before clock change he was up around 630/45 nap from around 1:15-2:45/3:15 usually about 1.5 hours. So about 6.5 hrs A time. He definitely won’t nap if his brother or father are home. So usually he goes at least 2 days without a nap and is a mess in the afternoon.  He doesn’t nap everyday so I know my days are numbered lol. But he goes through phases he’s not napping for days he’ll nap for a week. We have a bedtime routine with his older brother who’s 5.5 and they are usually in bed by 8 maybe asleep by 830 but on days when he doesn’t nap that’s a long day for him and he starts waking up earlier in the morning. I guess I’m hoping he’ll hold onto at least a 1 hour nap for a while and hopefully it wont push bedtime out much later or cause him to wake earlier in the morning. Since the clock change I have to wake him in the morning since he’s still asleep at 715 and then of course I can’t get him to nap at all.

so is he going to sleep at BT at the new time?

And are his nights a bit longer than before if you're not getting EWs any more (you said you're having to wake him)?

Maybe that's why you're struggling to get a nap?  Is that the issue then, the lack of nap now?

Yes now he’s waking around 7/715 he won’t nap unless we are in the car. I can’t get him to go upstairs to his room even. So he’s just non stop all day until bedtime. I’ve been doing a 12.5 hour day so he’s in bed by 730 and no more early waking. But totally would prefer a nap over early bedtime. Ugh. I even tried waking him by 7 am to get him to nap but no luck. Although he’s been asking to for for a ride in the car and he’ll fall asleep there he just doesn’t want to go in his crib. I’m missing the nap bad. Ugh

We are on two weeks now of him only napping in the car for about 45 mins. For some reason he won’t nap in his crib. He’ll ask me if we can go for a ride when he’s tired. He never slept in the car his whole life!
