Title: 5 month old EW - help!
Post by: MiniNs on March 30, 2019, 06:20:46 am
My 5 month old had never STTN but used to at least stay settled and asleep (sometimes with APOP) until 6:45/7:00. However he is now wide awake chatting and in no way tired, at 5:45am.

Any idea why this could be or what I can do?

I’ve tried leaving him but he doesn’t go back to sleep. I’ve tried replugging dummy but he usually  lies awake before spitting it out. I’ve tried APOP with rocking and/or  cosleeping which would usually work, but he just smiles at me!

Often when they start waking early it's because of day sleep/awake time. So could you post your day time routine and bedtime.

He is a serial cat napper and always has been, so this is probably the problem.

Here is what our day has looked like since the EW.

WU 5:45
E: 6:30 bottle
E: 7:30/8:00 breakfast
A: 2.5hrs
S: 8:15 -45mins (he sometimes does 1hr10 on this nap but not often - although Sod’s law is that he did 90mins here this morning haha). I cannot resettle or APOP back to sleep.

E: 10:30/11:00
A: 2.5hrs
S: 11:30 (or 2.25/2.5 hrs from nap WU) -45mins (he sometimes does 90mins on this nap, but again not often and again I cannot often resettle or APOP)

E: 12:30 lunch
A: 2.25hrs
S: 14:30 - 45mins

E: 15:15 bottle (he sometimes has this before his 14:30 nap. Sometimes he has a bottle at 14:30 and then nap at 15:00. Depends on hunger/tired cues)

I then normally have to APOP a 4th CN in around 16:30 otherwise he is way OT by tea time.

We bath at 18:00ish, BT milk at 18:30 and he’s in bed at 18:45.

It’s worth me saying that prior to the EW he was on a 2hr A time (when he just turned 5months) - but was still a cat napper, but we would be down to 3 naps a day at roughly the right times. I have extended A time to 2.25/2.5hrs to try and accommodate the EW and because he’s now 5.5months old.
I should also add that we are weaning on purées at the minute under doctors advice, so that’s why there are some extra Es.
Any suggested routines would be helpful thanks.
X

I'm going to go with 5.45am is an 11 hour night with a 6.45pm bedtime. So I think it's not his night length but the unrealistic information  that all babies sleep 12 hours overnight. Neither of mine ever did..
To me to get a later wakeup you may well need a later bedtime. Also first milk feed 30minx after your ideal wake up (if possible) and first nap 2 hours after your ideal wakeup a(also may not be possible.

Ah ok - so if my ideal wake up is 6:30 (as I feel that’s a)realistic for him b) is roughly the time his brother gets up and c) is the time I need him up when I return to work... then regardless of what time he wakes I should feed at 7:00ish (so long as he’s not screaming with hunger lol) and do the first nap at 8:30?
