Title: Nearly 3yo - early wakings and late bedtimes
Post by: Bera on May 23, 2019, 19:39:13 pm
Hi all

Looking for advice about my lovely 2y9m old son. Bless him, he’s been a super trouper with sleep for quite some time now but it’s recently been disrupted and I don’t know why...

His old routine (which was fab and worked well for ages) was
WU 7.15/7.30
Nap 1.30-2.45
Bedtime 7.30/8

But now, it’s
WU 6.30 (doesn’t settle back to sleep despite being in cot until 7.15)
Nap 1.30-2.30 (He’s still asleep and he’s so tired, I have to wake him repeatedly before he wakes up!)
Bedtime 8.30/9 (despite being in his cot for 7.45! He’ll sing and talk and ask for water for a long time before eventually drifting off).

In terms of disruption, the only change recently is that we started toilet training 6weeks aho and  he’s doing so well in the daytime. He still wears a nappy for nap and night time so I can’t imagine that’s an issue...
any advice please?
Should I cap the nap further to less than 1hour ? Should I move the nap earlier? Should I move bedtime later? I really don’t know where to start!

Thanks in advance

Sounds like he's ready to drop the nap.
There comes a point that regular day time sleep robs twice as much from the night and is kind of an indication that they don't need it as much. I'd try a no nap day and see what happens.

Thanks Katet,
I suspected that might be the case, perhaps I’m delaying the inevitable!
We’re going to Canada next month for 2 weeks which is a -4hour time difference so I think I’ll carry on with the usual for now and try dropping nap after holiday. I suspect his routine will be all over the place during and straight after the holiday!
Thanks again 😊

I think with a Holiday, that will be the perfect time to test it out. As it always changes things a bit.
