Title: Fruit jello as finger food?
Post by: lil'monkey on June 30, 2005, 16:12:37 pm
Does anyone know know to make real fruit jello for babies?  I don't want to feed dd the store bought ones b/c I was told that they have too much artificial coloring, flavor and such in them.  Thank you.

This is a recipe I found in a baby recipe book.  it's a UK recipe, so I apologise if the ingredients or quantities aren't familiar - i hope it makes sense!

600ml/1 pint cranberry and raspberry juice
1 sachet gelatine powder
2 tablespoons caster sugar
125g/4 1/2 oz fresh raspberries

Place half the juice in a small saucepan and heat until just at boiling point. Remove from the heat and stir in the gelatine and caster sugar until dissolved.  If not completely dissolved, stir over a gentle heat but do not boil.  Pour this into the remaining cold juice and then pour into a serving dish and stir in the raspberries.  Refrigerate until set.

I'm sure you could vary it to use different juice or fruit.  I think i made this for dd once and it turned out well - I feel quite inspired now to dig out the sachets of gelatine and make some more!  :D

Title: jello jiggler?
Post by: Oakley's Mom on November 07, 2005, 05:43:46 am
just wondering if this gives regular jello consistency?  or does it give jello-jiggler consistency?  if only regular, do you also have the jiggler recipe?  I would like to experiment to make a jello-jiggler moulded 'cake' for my son's 1st b-day... since he is not allowed to eat wheat, dairy, eggs, etc - a real cake just won't do...
