Title: Possible tomato allergy???
Post by: Tonya on July 13, 2005, 20:00:06 pm
My ds (16 months old) had bread and pasta with tomato sauce for the first time last night for dinner.

He slept great, but has been EXTREMELY fussy today, which is SOO unlike him!

My mother cares for him during the day while I work, and just called me to say that the baby hasn't stopped crying all day, and seems to have really bad gas.  I told her to give him Mylecon, and call me back.

Is it possible the tomato sauce did it to him?

Definitely possible!  Was that the only new thing that he at that day?  Did he have any dairy (maybe cheese on the pasta)?

No other dairy besides his milk (and he just recently tested not allergic to milk/soy).

I've just never heard of such a reaction to tomato!!

But he seems much better already today, and slept great last night, so I think we'll keep it out of his diet for awhile and try later!!

Thanks for your help!

Tomato's can be allergenic, they come under the nightshade family solenace (?sp) along with potatoes, peppers, aubergines etc.

We've always thought Liv may be sensitive to them but she seems to love them and as she doesn't get much joy from other foos we let her have some until we're absolutely sure it is this.

Yes, they can be allergenic, but can also just cause stomach upset due to the acidity...hard to say which! In either case, I'd avoid them for a bit longer!
