Title: I think we've created a monster!
Post by: Liam and Shane's Mommy on July 25, 2005, 20:59:34 pm
My ds is nearly 12 weeks old now.  He has been nursed to deep sleep at night before bed and then again during any night wakings or his first morning feeding when he likes to go back to sleep.  During his naps however I always try to put him down semi-awake.  ie. rock him until his eyes start to close then put him down.

Lately though he has been difficult to get down during the day and even more difficult to settle.  He started the consistent 30 or 45 minute napping thing about 3 weeks ago.  I've tried pat/shush, letting him cry for a bit etc.  Nothing seems to work more than a few times. I'll admit that  I'm only consistent for a few days.

I look forward to the nighttime and early morning nursing as the only times I can get him to sleep for long stretches but I wondering if they've come back to bite us in the butt.

The past few nights my ds will wake up as soon as I take him off the breast (even though he appears to be in a deep sleep) and my dh will carry him off to bed where he usually he can resettle him and put him down but the past few nights its taken over 2 hours and finally I give in a feed him again as he starts to act hungry.  My dh thinks its because we've let him have a 5 -10 minute power nap an hour before bedtime.  His bedtime is 8PM.  But that's only because we've kept him up since 5PM and he's soooo tired.

I wondered if its now because he just figures he should stay on the breast all night?
Could these few deep sleep nursings be ruining what I'm trying to do during the day?

Can you post his routine? That might help shed some light on what's going on! Thanks!
