Title: sample feeding schedule for 9 month old?
Post by: CW on July 27, 2005, 19:37:26 pm
Hi there ladies,

My DS is now 9 months old.  We visited our doctor yesterday and she suggested that we change things up a bit with his feeding schedule (spread out bottles and solids).  Right now, we're still on a 4 hr feeding schedule.  Recently, his formula intake has greatly reduced.  We'll make a 6 oz bottle, but he sometime will only have 4oz.  Here's what we're doing.

7am - 6-7 oz bottle, cereal and 1 jar fruit
11am - 6oz bottle, 1 1/2 jars baby food
3pm - 6 oz bottle, 2 jars
6:30pm - 8oz bottle

Our doctor recommends 20-24oz formula a day and is encouraging us to try yogurt and cheese (no eggs just yet) and other table food.

Would love to see sample schedules for a 9 month old!

Thank you!

Here's what my almost nine month old feeding routine looks like.

6-7:  breakfast-  My DS never wanted a bottle first thing in the morning.
hard cooked egg yolk, whole wheat bagel, fruit, whole wheat    pancake, etc.

9:  bottle:  4-6oz. like you mentioned, my ds has decreased his formula intake

noon:  lunch-  cheese, bread, fruit, veggie of some sort, yogurt etc.

2:  bottle:  usually 6-8 oz.

5:00:  dinner- meat of some sort (diced), veggies, pasta cut up, etc.

7:30:  8oz.

My ds has really stopped taking pureed foods, he would rather have small chunks that he can pick up on his own.  It looks like I give one less bottle than you.

I hope this helps.  I would love to see other sample feeding schedules!

Not quite at nine months but here's what we do:

7 wake
7:30-8 8oz bottle (doesn't want food first thing)
8/8:30 solids, 3-4 tablespoons cereal and fruit cube also finger food. toast bits, cheese, cheerios, bits of poached fruit, etc.
11:30/12 lunch fruit or veg, yogurt, cottage cheese, and more finger food
3-ish 8oz bottle
5:30 solids 3-4 tblsp cereal with veg or chicken and veg and more finger food
7:20 (right before bed) 8oz bottle

Here's our 'schedule'

7-8  6 oz Bottle
9  Solids (veg/fruit)
12  4-6 oz Bottle
1  Solids (veg/fruit/meat)
4  4-6 oz Bottle
6  Solids (veg/fruit/meat)
8  6 oz Bottle

Sometimes he sleeps late in the morning if we do, in that case, he just has a 4oz bottle and some fruit around 9.

Thank you for your replies...

Can you tell me where your naps fit?  My only bugaboo with a spreadout schedule is that they are likely eating right before naptime.  (Oh, one more bugaboo...it looks like more work!).
How do you schedule the naps then?

Thanks again!

We have about 2 1/2 hrs awake time between morning awake and first nap, then about 3 between 1st nap and 2nd then about 4 between 2nd nap and bedtime. Dd sleeps usually an hour and 15 to an hour and a half for naps and about 11 1/2 overnight. If it varies time wise (ie, awake time) we just roughly follow the awake periods. Does that make sense? So here would be an average day for us:

7 wake
7:30-8 8oz bottle (doesn't want food first thing)
8/8:30 solids, 3-4 tablespoons cereal and fruit cube also finger food. toast bits, cheese, cheerios, bits of poached fruit, etc.

9:30 NAP until 10:45-11

11:30/12 lunch fruit or veg, yogurt, cottage cheese, and more finger food

2 NAP until 3:15 or thereabouts with the next bottle immediately after waking

3-ish 8oz bottle
5:30 solids 3-4 tblsp cereal with veg or chicken and veg and more finger food
7:20 (right before bed) 8oz bottle

7:30 Bed

Ok, thank you for all that detail.  It definitely helps!  It looks like many of you offer just 3 bottles a day now, but with more in them!  I think I will give that a try!  He is very fidgety these days, but will settle down for a bottle if "Oprah" is on TV!  Seriously, the boy loves her!
