Title: Nap time and rolling over
Post by: Tammy: Ethan & Kaden's Mom on July 31, 2005, 17:36:38 pm
My ds has become very proficient at rolling over (both ways).  My problem is this ... he has always been a short napper.  We have had some limited success in extending his usual 45 minute naps.  :?   Now we throw rolling over into the mix.  All of a sudden, he now wakes after only 25 to 30 minutes (where he is on his back), and decides he wants to roll over.  That's fine, so he does that, and then will babble for a while.  However, most of the time, he will NOT go back to sleep!  Which obviously leads to a very cranky baby during the day!

At night, he does the same thing, except he will roll over, make some noise for 5 or 10 minutes, and then he's right back to sleep.

So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get these sudden 30 minute naps to go longer?  Or any tips on napping and rolling over in general?

TIA!

i just posted a reply to a similar question.  i wanted to tear my hair out when dd was doing this!  it only lasted  about a week though.  now she prefers sleeping on her tummy.  it just takes a little getting used to .  just try not to resort to accidental parenting along the way!

I found that if I gave him lots of tummy time/floor time during the day, and when it was time for nap/bed time, I would put him down drowsy but awake.. giving him a chance to shift about, squirm his way into a comfy position.

He's in the midst of a developmental milestone, so he's busy practising his new skill.. just at the wrong time!

One thing you can do, is being very very quiet, and staying in his room. When he is about to do the habitual roll-over awake, place your hand on his body to stop the roll.  Be sooo quiet and discreet, so that he doesn't really sense your presence.

Now this may not work completely the first time.. since he is used to waking up.

Also take a look at this thread, see if anything is helpful to you.
