Title: Rolling over and Waking up MANY times
Post by: ycoetzee on August 04, 2005, 15:07:27 pm
Hello All

I feel like I have a newborn - my son is 6 1/2 months old.

He is a tummy sleeper and has learnt to roll over to his back more than a month ago. Since then, I have been getting up and flipping him back onto his tummy whenever he does so. Last night I got up 13 times.

I can't do it anymore!

The thing is, he does'nt even try to roll the other way. He just screams. He sits up really well and is a strong boy - he should definitly be able to do it!

When he was about 4 months old I shht-pat him. Now he seems to get angrier whenever he sees me in his room. I don't know if I should do pu/pd, as it is not sleep that is the problem, is the rolling over thing. As soon as I flip him over - he goes back to sleep immediatly.

I have been told that this would soon pass, and that he will learn to roll over the other way. Well, it's been more than a month and he is still not even attempting.

Another thing is that I have NEVER seen him roll over when not in his crib. He ONLY does it at night!!! When I try to give him some practice during the day, he lifts his arms and legs, arches his back and screams!!!

Any suggestions (before I go mad!)

Yvette

My only suggestion is to not only give him practice during the day, but show him how to roll back over.  Do it over and over again and eventually he will get that.  Other than that, you just have to wait this milestone out.  You're doing great at not starting any accidental parenting, that's the most important thing.

yvette,

how's it going? my ds sounds just like your lo. he's 4.5 mo and rolls tummy to back by kicking himself over. and he only does it in the crib, not during the day ( i think he likes pushing off against the crib bumpers!)

has it gotten better for you? i'm still in the middle of nightwakings so i hope there's light at the end of the tunnel!!
