Title: Should you wake baby after a bad night????
Post by: Ladybird on August 10, 2005, 12:42:07 pm
I know that you are supposed to get baby up at the same time each day so that the daily routine remains the same but what if she has been up and down all night

My 10 month old dd has definitely improved and is sleeping longer at night but some nights, like last night, she is just not settling well and woke several times. After a bad night like that should you still wake her up at the same time (6-6:30am is her usual)?

If so won't she be overtired during the day or do you give her longer naps? How can she catch up?

I think you could easily wait until 7 without it screwing up her day too much.  Overtiredness could make it worse, so I"d let her sleep in a bit.

I've had the same problem - after a terrible night Finn will sleep until 8am some mornings.  I have woken him a few times and it actually makes for a better day all round.  His naps are earlier and therefore his bedtime is earlier which gives me a break at night.  So to answer your question, yes I think wake your little one if you want a good routine.  It's hard I know!  You think .... just five more minutes ...  8)
