Title: when to start some sleep training?
Post by: Khyan & Sahria's mum on August 14, 2005, 12:40:48 pm
Over last few months we have slipped quite a bit with Khyan's sleeping  and as a result he needs patting on the bum till almost asleep and he also has a habit early morning wake at 5.30am

Admittedly he has never been the child who goes in his cot wide awake but instead needs to be almost "trance-like" when put into his cot. I am fully aware and willing to tackle this now but I need abit of advice about our timing.

Khyan has been unwell the past week with HIGH fevers of 40 degrees  We think it was an ear infection or possibly a sinus infection and now that he is on antibiotics things are much better  :D His temperature is normal and he isn't as grumpy during the day. However he still has a running nose that is like a tap when he cries  :(

Should I give him demazin to dry it up before bed times and just go ahead with the sleep training? or should I be waiting for his nose to dry up and he is 100% better ? (His symptoms now are mostly cold type symptoms) the problem with this is that he never seems to be 100% better instead he just starts his next illness

What should I do???

TIA

Hiya!

First a question - What is demazin? Is it pseudoephedrine? Have you given it to him before? Does it make him sleepy or keep him up? (Okay, so more than one question.) I know when I give Henry pseudoephedrine it keeps him up so not a good idea at all, especially during sleep training.

If you can handle the situation as it stands for a little while longer, I would wait until he's well to do sleep training. If you're losing your mind (as I was about a month ago), then start now.

Not much of an answer but it's all I have. Hope it helps even a little.

I'm so glad to hear Khyan is feeling better! Hopefully he'll stay well this time! Sending you healthy baby vibes ....  :)

Thanks Sarah

Last night he was up what seemed to be ALL night so maybe he is feeling worse than I thought  and he has a horrible cough this morning.

So I'll wait and see what happens. We have been off track with our routine for a while now so I'll focus on that for a while so at least I feel like I'm doing something

Hope things are going well for Henry and you !
Would love a quick update  :D

Michaela,
Aiden was like that all last winter, it was so hard, to get his sleep working, as he just kept getting sick. I actually used Dimetapp, I did use Demazin for a while, but the Dimetap seems to work better & longer... even though they are both supposed to last 6-8 hours, The Dimetapp seemed to make him drowsy for about 8 hours & he slept better than with the Demazin
I found by September/October when the weather improved so did the colds & so did Aiden's sleep... this winter he has had almost as many colds, but has slept better, so there is hope for you next winter!

Thanks for the hope - I have my fingers and toes crossed for better times really soon !

I bought some Dimetap today and he had some before bed tonight ! I must admitt he is waking lots since he went to bed but I think it is because he is overtired not that the Dimetap isn't working  :?
