Title: How many toddlers going to bed 6-7 p.m.?
Post by: Carmela's Mom on August 25, 2005, 23:56:41 pm
How do you deal with life???  Carmela is 16 months old and her bedtime is 7.  All summer long we have tried to extend it and now its really biting us in the butt as she is starting to become an overtired mess...so right after Labor Day we are going back to 7 and if we see no change, then to 6:30...but how do you survive like that?  I mean I am all about letting Carmela get the sleep she needs but 6:30 is waayy early to me.

We start Henry's night time routine at 7. He's in bed by 7:30. On days that he's gotten up early or had a short nap, his bedtime routine starts at 6:45 and he's in bed by 7:15.

It is early but he needs it. If he goes to bed later, he gets up even earlier.

My son is a year old and his bedtime is seven.... or at least that's our goal.  There are some nights though, when he'll go to sleep fifteen or twenty minutes before that, because he's had short naps, or because we're driving back from his grandma's so he falls asleep in the car....  to be honest, I kind of prefer him going to bed kind of early...that way I have some time for myself before going to bed!

My son is 17 mo. and he goes happily to bed between 6 and 6:30.  He started being totally ready that early when he switched to one nap.  I really don't mind, although we don't eat dinner with him.  My husband works nights, so it gives me time to myself in the evening.  And it's easy to get a sitter if we want to go out to dinner or something.  We just put him to bed and the sitter is there in case he wakes.

Both of our kids are in bed before 7pm.  Levi is 3.5yrs (will be 4 in Nov) and does not nap.  By late afternoon he is DONE for the day.  He goes to sleep easily by 7pm and sleeps 12 hours.  Owen also sleeps roughly 12 hours at night as well as a 2hr nap.  I love it because then we have our evening without kids to relax and unwind from the day.

Myles is 20 months old and is in bed by 7pm.  If his nap hasn't been that great or he's not feeling well, he will go down earlier like 6:30.

I love the early bedtime.  Like Heather said, we get the evening to ourselves.

I'm with Carrie and Heather. I love having the evening to myself once Grace has gone to bed.

She's 19 mths now and goes to bed between 6.30 and 6.45. She did have a 6pm bedtime but when she transitioned to one nap (1 1/2 - 2 hours) we moved it a little later. She sleeps until about 7/7.30 in the morning which is a reasonable time to start the day I think.

ditto.... my son who is almost 23 months old goes to bed at 7:00 p.m. and if he doesn't have a good nap it's earlier.  I wouldn't change a thing.  I really don't understand the childrent that go to bed past 9:00.  Everything I ever read states a happy child starts 10 to 12 hours earlier.  My son generally will wake up around 7:00 a.m., so he is getting his 12 hours at night plus naps about 90 minutes during the day.  He is a very happy boy.

Some of my friends children look so tired to me and I think it has to do with the lack of consistency in bedtime.  I feel blessed that we have a child who goes to bed well and sleeps well, yet I can say we have been consistent since day one when putting him down to bed.

Enjoy your evenings.  I believe a husband and wife needs that time together to unwind and enjoy each other.

My dd is 12 months old.  She is in bed almost every night by 7, sometimes a little earlier.  (This is actually later than it was at 7-9 months.  She would often go to bed then around 5:00-5:30.)  While my dh doesn't get to spend too much time with her during the week, we do try to have dinner together and he usually gives her a bath.  I too like the early bedtime and don't plan to switch it to later until I absolutely have to.  It does take planning in that we can't routinely be out late at church functions, etc.  But I will settle for that.  It won't be that long in the greater scheme of things.

My dd is almost 16 months old and goes to bed between 6.45 - 7.30pm each night - this will I'm sure be even earlier soon when she goes to one nap a day.  I also think it is a good thing and she sleeps about 11 hours each night.  I do have friends that don't have routines and their children go to bed really late at night and one has even commented to me that I must be living in the Victorian era putting my child to bed so early and I was really offended as I felt they were saying that I wanted to get rid of her early rather than spend time with her.  However, I know in my heart that I am doing the right thing for my daughter and she is healthy and happy so I will continue with what I feel is right for her.

we always put the kids to  bed 12 hours after being awake...so for one summer it was 5pm!  and yes, he went to bed, slept 12 hours until 5am!!!  but i got out with friends that summer while dh was home with the baby :-)

last summer my younger one was going to bed about 5:30-6pm.

this summer she is 6-7pm.

dh and I just enjoy the time together alone.  and i get out a lot for me time.  i actually don't mind.

i can see that next summer the kids will be up to 8pm(my son already is) and i won't have that free time....so enjoying it now....

Both my kids are down for bed by 7-7.30pm.  I love the time at the end of the day to myself.  We don't go out much in the evenings anyway - and if we do go out for dinner with family we will be home by 8pm at the latest.

my daughter ist nearly 16 month and she always has been in bed around 7. As she sleeps at lunch only for just one hour, even more she needs to be in bed by 7. She awakes at 6:30, which wouldn´t bug me too much if she would sleep better during the night. Guess we have to go through that phase;-)

My 3 1/2 yr old dd goes to bed about 8:00 if she takes a nap and between 7-7:30 w/out one and wakes between 6-6:30 (that's when dh wakes and I think it wakes her because he was gone for 2 weeks and she didn't get up until 6:45-7:00), and my 1 1/2 yr old dd goes about 7:00 or 6:30 if she is sick or misses her morning nap and takes an earlier afternoon nap or short afternoon nap and her sister usually wakes her because they share a room.  I also like the time to relax in the evening.

I'm in the early camp too. My almost 4-yr-old goes down around 7:30 (never naps), and my 1.5 yr-old goes down at the same time with a nap (2-3 hr naps), or before 7 if she missed her nap. I, too, love the evening down time. We also can just not eat with the kids, which I lament but hope will phase back in when they are older and staying up later.

All that said, I try to be flexible for fun stuff, esp. in the summer when it's light and warm. I think a day a week or so staying up late for social occasions doesn't harm the kids and keeps us involved in our social lives as well! Plus, sometimes we now get those fantastic late sleep-ins when we do cave and let the kids stay up late!

Hi all,

Gracie is 18 months old and is in bed between 6 and 6.30pm and sleeps until 7.45am the next day.  Having said that, she does resist her daytime nap and most days goes without one.  It is lovely to have the evening to ourselves.  Ben, our ds who is 18wks is also down most nights for 6.30 and sleeps till 7am with a df at 10pm - praise the good Lord!

My 1 yr & 2 yr old both go to bed between 6 & 6.30, they share a room. Both go to sleep after a few minutes of babbling/ crying  & 1 yr old wakes for a bfeed (still) 5am but back to sleep when both wake around 7am. It´s about the same EVERY day, but it took a long time to get both to go to sleep off the breast at night. Wish 2 yr old would take nap again in the day though, but 1 yr old takes nap around 11.30-1.30 no probs every day now, phew!

My 28 months old will only go to bed at 18:30 if she's been up all day without a nap, and she will sleep as soon as her head literally hits the pillow

With a nap of about 1-1.5 hours in the afternoon, she'll be in bed by 8pm, but doesn't fall asleep immediately
