Title: Really confused by Wake to sleep.
Post by: minirog on September 02, 2005, 09:57:17 am
I posted on here a week ago but didnt get a reply, so I thought I'd try again.

How does wake to sleep work for naps?

I've sorted of tried waking Ben at 25  min mark and getting him back off, but then he doesnt go back off and i have to use dummy/me/cuddles etc and it doesnt often work.

We had abreakthrough day where he napped for 1.5 hours twice and one cat nap of 30 mins and then he slept through from 7 until 5! I was thrilled. but it seeems that day was a fluke!

Ben is getting really grouchy these days because he is overtired.

I have recently packed all my stuff into boxes and cant get to Tracey's book so I really need some advice form you guys.

Sorry to be a pain!

ok - i did not even notice that Tracy recommended wake to sleep for naps so i looked it up in the latest book and here is what she said:

"Instead of waiting for her to wake, go into her room at 30 min, because that is when she first starts to come out of a deep sleep (remember that sleep cycles are usually 40 min) Before she comes all the way up to consciousness, gently pat her until you see her body relax again.  It could take 15-20 minutes of gentle patting. If she starts to cry though, you'll have to send her back top sleep with PU/PD."

having never used PU/PD myself i am no help if you need that  - just thought i would type out the bit from the book for you.

good luck

Thanks!

That really helps!

I thought wake to sleep, meant literally waking my boy up! No wonder he was cross!

Thanks so much for your help!
