Title: returning to work and supply issues
Post by: kq on September 04, 2005, 20:29:55 pm
Hi,
ds will be 6 months old when I go back to work in October. I want to keep doing the morning and evening feeds but working will mean that 2 days a week, I will miss giving him either the morning or evening feed. i have never had much success with expressing and will have to give him formula those 2 days but want to keep supply up.
Will expressing at work at the normal feed time for the normal feed duration keep supply up even if I do not get much milk?
Will my breasts just make enough milk for those 2 feeds and any night feeds?
Has anyone any experience with this?

Yes, you should pump at work. Even if you can express very little, you are still sending a message to your body to produce milk.

Your supply will eventually adjust to lesser demand and you can keep those two feeds per day for as long as you want. There was somebody posting on this board with an 18 month old and she just kept 2 feeds per day and still had enough milk for them.

Good luck!
