Title: BOTTLE FEEDING AND NIGHT WAKING - HELP!!!
Post by: frasersmummy on September 13, 2005, 19:15:39 pm
hello all,

desperately seeking advice from you experts. My son is 18 weeks old and nearing 20 lbs but is yet to sleep the night. He's waking up betwen 2-4am starving and as much as i try to delay his feed, inevitably he gets fed and usually has at least 7 oz. i figured that because he is so big he should have a big apeptite to match but he eats like a sparrow!! He's on four hourly feeds but never asks for dinner (except at night  !) and will only have 4 or 5 oz at a time. BW suggests increasing daytime feeds but how do you do that?? Once he's full he's full? I've tried cluster feeding but all that happens is he'll have less milk at his next one so overall he still has the same amount. He also has a good dream feed of 6 oz. Have tried giving him rice or cereal but doesn;t sem to make any difference. I'm getting pretty desperate as my other half is away at sea and i have no family here to give me a rest :? Fraser's such a happy baby - spirited i think but he feeding is so erratic!! How is he so big? He was 7.13 at birth and BF solely for 14 weeks. still has boobies in the morning,
any advice would be appreciated, thank you mummies xx

Hello,
It does seem that he is hungry if he is drinking 7oz at night.  And if he isn't waking at the same time every night, it probably isn't a habit.  He may just be one of those babies who are older that wakes for food at night...some as old as 6 months.  I'm not sure what nipple size you use....maybe if you went up a size he would drink more?  Have you tried a dreamfeed at all?  That might be enough to make it til morning...

I'll just throw this out there too...I don't know how you feel about starting solids (it's not recommended until 6mos).  Some people start them with success in the night wakings, but others have started them and it actually increased the night wakings...??
