Title: question about stage 2 baby foods
Post by: jennc123 on September 17, 2005, 17:40:24 pm
My ped said i could start using stage 2 foods, I see ones with yogurt in them, are these okay for babies?  a girl in the grocery store said they were her babies favorites, I can only assume they are made for babies so they must be safe right?

also another question is she still getting most of her protein from breastmilk, I haven't given her meat yet, the whole idea of pureed meat grosses me out  :?

DS is 6.5 months and we use Gerber Organic #2 foods, but haven't noticed any yogurt in them. We haven't tried the meats yet either. Pedi said to start them around 7 months, but really I have only heard gross things about them. We might puree our own left over chicken and such when the time comes and we might just skip the canned meat all together. Regarding the baby yogurt, I have read somewhere to start that closer to 10 months, but I am not exactly sure.

I can't remember about the yogurt either, so no help there.

On the issue of meat though, I did try them with my DS and he loathed them.  I ended up making my own puree'd stews for him by using an immersion blender.  He loved them.  We started him on those by 7ish months or so.

HTH

Yogurt is okay for babies 6 mo or older. I skipped the jarred meats as well. They just freaked me out. I waited to introduce meats until Tyler could eat a little cut up piece of tender meat...more like 1 yr, I think. I didn't worry too much about his protein intake until we dropped formula at 1 yr, but I did introduce other protein foods before then, like yogurt, cheese, beans, and tofu (at the age appropriate times) just in case he didn't like meat later. HTH!

We also gave Nathan yogurt at about 7 mos.  Just know that most of the Gerber yogurt foods have sugar in them, so you may or may not want to use them.  The meat purees are aweful!!!  I gagged when I smelled it - never again.

I am finding that the beechnut foods are more like real food, and taste better.  she likes them, especially the ones with the added dha etc...and there are some made with egg yolk so they are creamier, i check the sugar content and its natural sugars so i feel okay about it.  they make a stage 2 yogurt, apple meal that she loves, did make her alittle gassy though :)  :P

Glad that she likes the food!  I love Beechnut too.  They are soy-free, which is nice for allergy reasons...  I think they taste better also.   :P
