Title: once sitting up, where do you put them?
Post by: me and bean on September 18, 2005, 17:18:48 pm
i mean...  now, while still at that 'spaghetti muscles' stage, i lay him on a blanket to play, or in his bouncy seat, or under a gymini or mobile etc.

when they sit up, apart from independently sitting on their own on the floor, what do you all sit them in?  or on, for a little support?

I used a nursing pillow for some support in her trunk.  I also did a lot on the bed with pillows around and me there to help her get stronger - she'd only stay up in her own for short periods, but they gradually got longer and it was always soft when she fell. Then when she got a bit better at sitting, I'd put pillows around her on the floor for when she toppled.  Now, she rarely falls over unless she means to, so I have her on these interlocking foam mats on the floor - they're great!  Oh, and for a while, I'd put her in the corner of the couch (a deep couch!) and I'd stay really nearby.  The sides of the couch gave her support and I could give her something to play with in her hands.

olivia sits completely unsupported and plays either on the floor (on a big play mat i have) or in her exersaucer. sometimes i open up alex's kid sofa bed and sit her on that by the window with toys - then she can also look at trees, etc and her back is supported too (do they sell these little inexpensive foam sofas in the states?)

You can get either half circle or complete circle " Doughnut" cushions but im not sure where from they can sit in them and still feel a little supported
They had them at My Mums and Toddlers groups

Hi

My DS is 8 month old and sits quite happily in his play nest (link attached).  He has used it since about 3 weeks old.

He can sit unaided but is a lot steadier in this and I think its alot safer than sitting him on the sofa (ours are leather and he slides).

There are different styles available, some have a framework/canopy overhead which works as a mobile with toys hanging from it.

My almost 6mth old can sit supported but not idenpendently yet and I've just started to sit her in the highchair with some toys on the tray (while we eat our dinner or right now while I'm on the computer and my toddlers on my lap entertaining her) for her to play with.  Also, if you don't have anything fancy yet want something portable you can pop them in the washing basket with pillow around for support and put some toys in there.

Ive bought a "BUMBO" chair for my Lo when he can hold his neck and sit up himself - its ideal as it supports them properly and once they are in the bumbos they can't get out so have to stay put - e.g to feed him or allow him to sit and watch me as I'm busy or his baby einstein dvds.
