Hi just thought i would share this with you as it may help some people as it has helped me.
I put ds in his own room at 3 weeks and i used monitors so i could hear him.
He is now 16 weeks and for the last few nights i have turned the monitors off. He is only in the room across from ours.
WOW!!!! What a differnence.. I dont hear every little click that the monitors make. They really do pick up every little sound and amplify it by about 56 million!!!
I only hear ds when he wakes up and cries.
Give it a try you might be surprised.
I still use the monitirs during the day when im watching telly or getting on with housework.

YUP... couldn't agree more. If our children were far from us I'd probalby use them but they are right down the hall... Only dug out the one we own recently b/c I was out back gardening and can't hear the baby if he wakes out there. Those things are wretched little sigh amplifiers. LOL!

We stopped using our monitors long ago also. I think most newer models these days though have a 'silent' option, which means it only picks up the louder noises such as crying.

We're the same. I also don't use a night monitor (unless it's a really noisy stormy night), just during the day since her room's the furtherest from the living areas.

Yeh i have got the latest monitors they cost £99 and they have a volume control or you can have them on silent and just light up when baby make a noise but they still make a clicking noise its weird and annoying, so i would just recommend to buy the cheap ones.

We paid dear for our first set, digital ones and they did that really annoying clicking (it's the set's communicating with each other), as luck would have it the transformer packed in so we took it back for a refund and got the cheaper analogue ones instead, sooooo much better, still, redundant now though :)

I only used mine when im downstaits at the pub ( OK I dont go out to the Pub I live in one!! :wink: )
So i can work and listen to her at the same time, but at night ive never bothered shes loud enough!!! :D

Same goes here. Ewan was a really loud sleeper so not only did we not use a monitor at night but he went straight to his own room cause he kept us up all night.

we haven't got round to buying a monitor yet! DS still sleeping in with us (starting to think about making the leap but also have trip to canada coming up in about a month so not sure, another whole topic i guess!) Good to have some advice.

We do the same! No monitor at night, and things are sooo much better. I read somewhere (maybe this site?), that babies have developed poor sleeping habits since monitors became popular. Hmmmmm

Yes and its because we run in to see ehats up and the chances are they just moved a bit but the monitors make it sound so much worse.GET RID OF MONITORS!!! :lol:

Begun to do this after the early morning feed ( she wakes aroiund 4/5am) and the official start to the day - 7am. I have turned the monitor sensitivity and volume down so that I only hear the cries that I need to hear. I cannot believe that I slept the first night I used the monitor - I had it on the highest possible setting - it was like listening to Darth Vader! I do rememeber at the time needing the reassurance as she was also only 3 weeks when we put her in her own room.

We had DS in our room until 4 months. The night I moved him into his own room I had the monitor on for 1 hour. That's as long as I lasted. Turned it off and figured I'd hear him as his door is only 10 feet away.
I can hear his breathing change...I swear I can. Sometimes after I feed him and go back to bed I can hear him resettling and i'm so wired hoping he doesn't wake up that even hearing DH breathe next to me freaks me out!
