My son wakes up between 5-5:30 am every day.... so around 9 am he's ready for his hour and a half long nap.  Sometimes, he'll have another hour long nap in the afternoon...sometimes he won't.

I meant for those that wake up out of character.  If they normally wake at 6:30 but wake up at 5:30 for the day, do you compensate by an early nap...thanks

When my dd wakes early, it depends on the day on whether she goes down earlier for her nap.  Sometimes when she goes down earlier, she won't sleep as long so it ends up backfiring.  Other times, I'm done with her early and put her down if you know what I mean...  It kind of depends on her mood and what else we're doing that morning/afternoon/evening on whether she's acting ok and distracted by errands or something in the morning to make it to her nap or if I need her to be up a bit early for something that evening so I go ahead and put her down a bit early.  You just have to experiment with it I think and see what works best for your dc.  If your dc gets overtired easily, I'd put them down early.  However, my dc is a routine baby and usually likes to go down and get up around similar times no matter what (again like I said if she's able to last that long).  AND if she woke early because she's sick and also had a rough night, then she definitely goes down early.  HTH

It all depends on how he is.  I agree with Stacie that if he is up early because he is sick, then I definitely put him down early for his nap.  But I just follow his lead for the most part, and try and stick to his normal nap time as much as I can.
