Title: Need help with how to change nap/eating schedule
Post by: Samanthachoate on September 27, 2005, 06:00:24 am
I have twin 5 month old boys.  They sleep 10 hours at night and do it very well.  However, they are now changing how sleep works and I am not sure how EASY is suppost to continue.  Right now they eat on a three hour schedule and take four 1-hour naps.  I am all for the four hour schedule, however when I have tried it in the past they would stay awake for two hours and sleep two hours, but then they would want to be awake at 5 a.m.
Some of the schedules I have seen have them awake longer in the middle of the day or waking up before they eat.  I can't keep them awake for more than two hours.  And when they wake up they have been so used to eating that it seems impossible to hold them off.  Am I confused about how the four-hour schedule works?  What do you do?  Advice please.

Hi, I'm a bit unsure from your post just what's happening.  So if you're doing the 4hr EASY with 2hrs activity and 2hrs sleeping then eating on waking and you repeat that throughout the day, does it mean that they now wake at 5am in the morning to start their day?  Perhaps post the routine you were doing if they are on the 4hr and we'll have a look at it.  Also, have you checked out the top of this forum for Tracy's 4hr EASY?

When I tried the 4 hour EASY it went like this ( I am going to just put one baby's schedule up for ease the other would be about a half hour behind)
E: 8 a.m.
A: 8:30-10:00
S: 10:00-12:00

E: 12:00
A: 12:30-2:00
S: 2:00-4:00

E: 4:00
A: 4:30-6:00
S: 6:00 - ? this varied a lot because I never knew what to do here.  I couldn't get them to stay up any longer than two hours. But if they slept at all then they would wake up earlier in the morning.

Well, I have to go, time to eat.  Thanks for helping.

Right a few things., I would say they're waking early from hunger, but the naps also need a shift around.  Some babies are ready for only 2 naps at this age, but I'd say you need to have a short catnap at the end of the day to help extend their "day" out - at the moment it looks like it's only 10hrs long.  So perhaps at 6pm put them down for a 30-40min nap and wake them.  Then have activity for 1.5hrs and put them back to bed for the night at 8pm.  You will then need to refeed them before bed and probably offer a dreamfeed as well if you're not, so your routine could look something like this at the end of the day:

E: 4:00
A: 4:30-6:00
S: 6:00 (catnap for 30-40mins)

A: until 7pm
E: 7 or 7.30pm
S: 8pm

E: Dreamfeed at 10pmish

How does that look?
