Title: Playing After 45 Mins

Quick question.  My spirited 10 mos old has started taking 45 min naps.  He wakes, and plays and talks to himself in his crib for an hour until his next feeding.  He is then exhausted after only half hour or so.  My question is: if he wakes so early, but is talking and playing, should I leave him alone and then do my best to keep him awake until next nap?  Or should I walk in, resettle him, and leave, which makes him cry, and hopefully will make him sleep longer.

Hi Nathan's mommy.  We went through this as well right about the 8-9 month mark, and so we (my dh, mom, and nanny) made a house rule.  DS is in his room for a minimum of an hour, without interference.  So that means, when he wakes at 45 mins, we leave him in there.  We don't do a thing.  We had found that our interference just made the process harder.  He sometimes took our visits as play time.  After a few days of doing this, he learned to resettle and would often fall back asleep unassisted.  My two cents, leave him be.  Like everything else, it's probably temporary!

I agree w. CW, i wish my dd would play in her crib when waking early.  I would not interfer w/ that what so ever.

But i wanted to add, if taking the 45min naps - it sounds like it is time to gradually increase A times.  15min every 3 days until the 45min monster goes away.

Thanks so much guys!  I guess I will just sit back and let him play.  It is sooo hard since I know he will be a bear until the next nap, but he needs to learn to re-settle on his own.  Thanks for the advice!

I go running there every morning, and try to take Donovan out for a walk in the afternoons (especially now that's he awake ALL afternoon, we gotta do something!).  Let me know, and we can meet!  Over by the Dana statue!

I would love to have BW OC get together.  Taylor's Mommy and I (she works in Irvine) have been chatting about having one too.

Who want's to take names and organise it?  For maybe the end of the month, as i'll be on vacation from 10-17 Oct.  CANN"TTT wait :!:  :!:

CW, at least w/ all these little or no naps I can spend more time at the pool  :lol:  8)

I live in Long Beach, but definitely wouldn't mind driving out to the OC to meet fellow BW moms.
