Title: communicate
Post by: sa on October 01, 2005, 18:49:01 pm
ppl said 8 month old baby should start to communicate. should know how to wave goodbye or will know one or two instructions.

sam just having a lot of fun standing, crawling, putting everything in his mouth. if i keep him still in his chair and talk to him, he will just look around, look up, look down, will not look at me or interacting with me.

i sign to him since 5 months, and sometimes feel so bored doing it as he just doesn't show much interest.

well ..... he is communicating as he show me "no" by pushing my hands away, and "yes" by kicking and smiling. may be it's just not the way i hope for ??!

Hi! My lo was the same. I had been signing to him since he was about 5 months old. It is only recently that he has begun to get the hang of it. He first signed for milk when he was 9 months. And this was only out of desparation! He had been unwell and I was just giving him water. He must have been desparate to get over to me that he was hungry for milk  and that was the first time he did it. After that I had to really watch carefully. He may have been doing it before and I hadn't noticed. I didn't always believe it, until his signing became really clear.

I think sometimes when you anticipate all their needs, they don't have the opportunity to sign, because they don't need to. All bubs develop at different rates. He hasn't really picked up any of the others yet, although think he understands more than he is able to communicate to me.

I'd say don't give up. Keep it simple 1,2 or 3 signs. Make it fun. Be consistent adn try to give him the opportunity to express his needs!

Good luck :)

what i am worried about is that sam is ignoring me
he is more interested in everything else than talking to me.
and yes, sam hardly cry for milk or food as he is on EASY his day is very predictable.

is this just a pharse? may be he is too excited about standing up and walking around furniture?

my friend keep telling me that her DS can do things she told him to do (e.g. making funny face and wave goodbye) at 8 months. that worry me a bit.
