Title: How to Cluster Feed?
Post by: Matka on October 08, 2005, 16:24:22 pm
Greetings!

My little one is 6 weeks old and already weighs in at 11 lbs.  We have a big, healthy baby boy!  I would like to start the cluster feeding at night to see if I can tank him up to sleep through the night (or close to it!)  My question is on portions.  If I feed him every two hours from 6 to 10 do I give him his full  4 1/2 to 5 ounce bottle, or does that cause them to spit up?  What time does the dream feed come in?  My husband and I are FTOP's and we're learning as we go!  Any help would be great!

Hello!  :D
Typically a cluster feed is late afternoon early evening, feeding every 1.5 to 2 hours.  So it would go something like this...

If he is on a 3 hour routine:

Feeds at:
7:00
10:00
1:00
4:00
6:00 (clusterfeed)
8:00 (clusterfeed)
BEDTIME
You may then choose to do a dreamfeed between 10-11:00PM  :D

For the clusterfeeds, offer as much as he'll take (it may just be a couple of ounces which is ok, it's just to tank him up)  :D

Thanks!  I'm going to try it tonight!  Here's hoping for a good 4-6 hour stretch of sleep time!
