Post by: neet on October 10, 2005, 07:50:01 am
I have just started my 6 month old on follow on formula, but he just wont take it....it seems really thick to me.....is this the way it is supposed to be or does there seem to be a problem with the formula?  I have reverted back to Newborn formula just so he will take it.   Can anyone help???

We use Aptamil by Milupa and it is just the same as the other formulas.  No thicker at all.  HTH

Sorry I forgot to mention it is the follow on one we use now - no thicker than others.

Thanks for your notes, i appreciate your fast reply.  I think i will change back to the one i was using for under 6 months, he seems to take it better and i dont really see the difference.   I may ring the consumer hotline on the packet when they open again tomorrow and see what they say.  thanks again!  :D

I use cow and gate and they have 4 stages, newborn, hungry baby, follow on and step up ( i think!) The hungry baby and step up are lots thibcker as they contain more protein. If you look at the ingredients and nutritional info on the pack there isn't that much diff, so Id go with what he prefers.

As far as I was aware the follow on one for after 6 months has extra iron in it that is important for babies of this age.

yes, I think you're right. Lots of people I've spoken to recently have said that most babies don't need the extra iron in the formula, if they are eating a varied diet.
However that's not come from an official source.

Here's a thought, what about breatfed babies, do mum's have to eat lots of iron rich foods after 6mo? I don't know i didn't BF that long?!
